RVs are getting smaller, USA Today reported in an Aug. 11 article about motorhome trends. The newspaper used RVIA shipment data to report that motorhome sales have grown through the first half of 2011.
Reported USA Today: While sales of traditional motorhomes (Type A) have grown at a respectable 6.2% for the first six months of the year, two smaller classes (Types B and C) have grown nearly twice as fast.
The article reflected RVIA messages that RVs are becoming smaller, lighter, more aerodynamic and more fuel efficient.
"The era of bigger-is-better and more ostentatious is over," RVIA President Richard Coon told USA Today. "The trend is toned down quite a bit."
The article attributes the change in motorhome designs to a cultural shift away from conspicuous consumption, the desire for improved fuel economy, and the versatility of smaller motorhomes.
